The approach by sea to the port of Vigo in Western Galicia involves a difficult passage through the offshore islands of Islas Cies. The area is littered with beacons, seamarks, navigation lights and lighthouses but this is one of the most spectacularly sighted. Monte del Faro is located on top of a rocky peak at the southern end of the island of Isla del Faro - the peak also being the highest point on the island. The lighthouse is reached by an access road characterised by a series of sharp hairpin bends that can be clearly seen in the above photo. In the summer months, ferries run to the island from Cangas and from Vigo. In the lower left of the photo another light is visible. I have, so far, been unable to identify this one positively and have therefore not given it a page to itself. However, I believe it is the Punta Canabal light (Farol da Porta).
